Accolade, Inc.

Founded in 1984 by Alan Miller and Bob Whitehead, Accolade was a San Jose–area American publisher active through the 1980s and 1990s. It published sports and driving franchises such as HardBall and Test Drive alongside licensed golf releases bearing Jack Nicklaus’s name. The company appears in appellate law for its 1992 dispute with Sega over reverse engineering Genesis protection, a ruling that addressed fair use for interoperability. Accolade’s operations were later folded into Infogrames North America after a 1999 acquisition.
