Gremlin Graphics Software Limited began in Sheffield in 1984 as a games publisher and developer formed by Ian Stewart and Kevin Norburn from a small computer shop. Operating from Carver Street, the company published and produced 8‑ and 16‑bit titles through the 1980s and early 1990s, with early hits including Wanted: Monty Mole and action/arcade releases such as Highway Encounter. In 1994 the firm changed its trading name to Gremlin Interactive; later corporate changes and sales followed after the 1990s. Key Sheffield staff and studio locations defined its output during the home‑computer era.
