Nintendo of America Inc.

Founded in 1980 as Nintendo Co., Ltd.’s U.S. subsidiary, Nintendo of America Inc. began in New York under president Minoru Arakawa and later moved its principal operations to the Pacific Northwest, where it is based today. During the 1980s onward it acted as Nintendo’s American publishing, marketing and localization arm, handling North American releases for the company’s major franchises — for example Mario, Donkey Kong and Pokémon — and operating console and retail efforts in the Americas.
