Founded in 1979 by Ken and Roberta Williams as On-Line Systems and renamed Sierra On‑Line in 1982, the company operated from California (initially Simi Valley, later near the Sierra Nevada). Primarily a developer‑publisher of personal‑computer titles throughout the 1980s and 1990s, it is best known for its line of graphic and text adventure franchises created and stewarded during that period.
