Retro Replay Review
Gameplay
The map asks players to consider movement and weapon range before attacking. Keeping a useful ally nearby can make the next exchange more manageable.
Support attacks and defenses introduce another reason to keep units working together. Helping a teammate can improve the effectiveness of that cooperation.
Intermissions offer time to improve machines and pilot abilities. The next sortie begins with decisions made before the first unit moves.
Graphics
Small robot sprites occupy a bright grid map while portrait windows carry the dialogue. The compact figures and clear terrain keep the GBA display readable during planning.
Story
Earth’s brief peace ends as several threats arrive at once. An extraterrestrial refugee crisis turns into war after a diplomatic mission is assassinated.
The Londo Bell force becomes central to the response. Its members must confront immediate enemies while trying to understand who has encouraged the wider conflict.
The chosen protagonist and decisions during the adventure can affect the route through the story. Familiar pilots share the battlefield with that original lead.
Overall Experience
The attraction is the busy crossover roster and the decisions involved in keeping its members useful. A favorite robot still needs a sensible position.
Japanese dialogue and extensive menus require patience from an unfamiliar player. Recognizing the machines alone will not explain every choice.
This is the original GBA release rather than the later PSP remake. Its support systems and intermission planning give a handheld campaign plenty to consider.
