Gameplay
The first thing you notice about Elite Soldier Pack is how quickly a few cosmetic choices can make a familiar squad feel more personal. XCOM asks you to invest in individual soldiers over time, and this add-on gives you better tools for making them look like distinct members of your own unit rather than variations on the same uniform.
The Complete Color Customization is the most broadly useful part of the bundle. Being able to use different colors and tints across armor sets lets you build a consistent squad look or make each soldier immediately recognizable by appearance. That is a modest change, but it has real value when you like assigning your own personality to a roster.
The Classic X-COM Soldier and the Hyperion and Reaper armor decoration kits are more specific tastes. The Classic recruit is a pleasant nod to X-COM: UFO Defense, while the decoration kits give you bolder alternatives to the standard armor look. None of this alters the tactical game; the payoff is in caring a little more about the people you send into battle.
Graphics
The new looks are easy to understand at a glance: a Classic X-COM-inspired recruit, more armor colors and tints, and the distinct Hyperion and Reaper decoration kits. They are straightforward additions, but they give squad lineups more variety than a uniform run of default armor.
Story
This is not a story expansion. Its contribution is more personal than narrative: it lets you decide how your squad is represented, which can make the soldiers feel more like a unit with its own identity.
The Classic X-COM Soldier carries the clearest bit of history. Bringing an original X-COM-inspired recruit into Enemy Unknown is a nice touch for longtime fans, and it gives the pack a little more character than a plain set of alternate colors.
If you want new plot material, this pack is not aimed at that desire. Its small role is to enrich the stories you already invent around your squad through a more customized look.
Overall Experience
Elite Soldier Pack is a tidy cosmetic extra rather than a must-have expansion. Its value depends almost entirely on whether you enjoy customizing a squad and notice those details during a campaign.
For fans who like the classic X-COM connection, the included recruit is the standout. For everyone else, the wider color options may be the more practical reason to pick it up, since they apply across armor sets and offer the most room for personal expression.
As a purchase on its own, it is hard to get excited about unless squad appearance matters to you. As a small bundle of options for someone already committed to Enemy Unknown, though, it does exactly what it promises: it gives your soldiers more personality without asking you to learn anything new.
