To LOVE-Ru: Doki Doki! Rinkaigakkō-hen

To LOVE-Ru: Doki Doki! Rinkaigakkō-hen drops you into a four-day beach-resort school trip where Rito Yuki’s bad luck, nerves around girls, and complicated crushes predictably create trouble. It is a straightforward PSP visual novel built around choosing who to spend time with, then seeing which route and ending those decisions lead toward.

The licensed premise is unapologetically ecchi comedy: swimsuits, awkward accidents, and romantic misunderstandings sit beside fully voiced conversations and a few light interruptions such as timed Trouble events, watermelon smashing, and tug-of-war. If you already enjoy To LOVE-Ru’s cast, the branching character focus gives the trip a reason to replay; if the series’ fan-service humor grates on you, the game has little interest in changing your mind.

Gameplay

The first hour asks very little of you beyond settling into Rito’s point of view and deciding whose company matters most. A choice as simple as sitting with Haruna or Lala on the bus establishes the game’s real hook: you are steering a familiar romantic-comedy setup toward a particular girl’s ending, rather than merely reading one fixed beach episode.

That focus makes the decisions more valuable than they might look on paper. You are not managing a deep system; you are choosing which conversations and relationships to prioritize, then living with the path that follows. The multiple endings give repeat playthroughs a clear purpose, especially if you have a favorite character rather than just a general interest in the series.

Every so often, the relaxed reading rhythm is broken by a Trouble event that asks you to hit the shoulder buttons at the right time to avert an accident or help someone out. The watermelon-smash and tug-of-war minigames add further variety, though they sound more like brief diversions than reasons to buy the game. The practical comforts are stronger: you can save anywhere, revisit recent dialogue in the log, and replay voiced lines when you missed something or simply want to hear it again.

Graphics

This is a character-driven anime game, with its beach-trip premise putting the cast in resort scenes and swimsuits rather than asking the setting to carry the show. Completing the game unlocks a gallery for revisiting its in-game images, a welcome extra for anyone collecting routes and favorite character moments.

Story

Rito begins as an ordinary, unathletic high-schooler who freezes around girls, which is precisely the wrong temperament for sharing a home with Lala, an alien princess, while quietly pining for Haruna. The setup is deliberately messy, and the game leans into that mess instead of trying to make Rito unusually cool or competent.

The school trip gives the comedy a tidy frame: four days away at a beach resort, plenty of opportunities to pair Rito with different girls, and enough room for the branching choices to matter. Haruna and Lala are immediately central, but the route structure means the story can end with different characters depending on how you play.

Expect flirtation, embarrassment, and escalating awkwardness rather than a dramatic adventure. That is a strength if you come in wanting an interactive To LOVE-Ru episode with room to pursue a preferred heroine. It is a limitation if you want the plot to move beyond the series’ established ecchi-comedy formula.

Overall Experience

To LOVE-Ru: Doki Doki! Rinkaigakkō-hen knows exactly who it is for. If the series already makes you laugh, the chance to guide Rito through a voiced, branching beach-trip story has an easy pull. Picking a route turns the familiar chaos into something a little more personal, and the different endings make another run feel justified.

The frustration is equally easy to predict. If you dislike Rito’s constant discomfort around girls or have no patience for accident-prone fan-service comedy, a few timed button prompts and simple minigames will not provide a different kind of game beneath it. This is primarily a visual novel, and its best moments will be the conversations and character outcomes you actively chose.

For a To LOVE-Ru fan, it is a pleasingly focused piece of licensed fiction with thoughtful replay tools and enough branching to reward commitment. For everyone else, it is a narrow recommendation: try it only if a light, dialogue-heavy romantic comedy with a swimsuit-resort backdrop sounds like a good way to spend an evening.
