Gameplay
The first thing this Ultimate Edition gets right is convenience. You are not buying a stripped-down base game and then sorting out which extras matter; the Lizard Rampage, Oscorp Search and Destroy, Rhino Challenge, and Stan Lee Adventure packs are already part of the deal. That makes the Wii U release feel like a fuller Spider-Man purchase from the start.
The GamePad’s second screen is used for the map and upgrade screens, a modest touch that is more practical than flashy. Being able to check your location or handle upgrades without pulling those functions onto the main display keeps the flow cleaner. If you dislike pausing an action game just to rummage through menus, you will appreciate it.
This is still a compilation rather than a radically different Wii U remake. The core draw is the HD version of The Amazing Spider-Man, with the additional packs broadening what you have to do once you want more than the main game. The Rhino Challenge is especially welcome as a clearly focused extra, while the named Lizard, Oscorp, and Stan Lee packs give the edition a more complete feel than the base release alone.
Graphics
This edition uses the HD version of The Amazing Spider-Man. On Wii U, the most noticeable interface advantage is the split between the TV image and the GamePad, with maps and upgrades moved off the main screen rather than cluttering it during play.
Story
The Ultimate Edition is built around The Amazing Spider-Man and extends that material with add-on content tied to Lizard, Oscorp, Rhino, and Stan Lee. That immediately gives Spider-Man fans more comic-book-flavored material to dig into than a bare campaign package.
Do not treat the extras as one seamless new storyline. They are separately named packs, and their value is in adding more Spider-Man content around the central game rather than replacing it with a single expanded narrative.
If you are coming in because you want more of this version of Spider-Man’s world, the bundle structure works in your favor. The included packs make it easier to stay with the game after the main portion has had its say, instead of leaving you to decide whether each add-on is worth another purchase.
Overall Experience
A 7.2 feels fair for this kind of release: solid, sensible, and more appealing as a complete package than as a major new Wii U event. The GamePad features are useful rather than transformative, but the map-and-upgrade setup is exactly the kind of small quality-of-life change that suits the hardware.
Give this version the nod if you want The Amazing Spider-Man in HD on Wii U and would rather have its DLC collected in one place. It is particularly easy to recommend when the added Lizard, Oscorp, Rhino, and Stan Lee material matters to you; otherwise, this remains the same core game with a tidier interface arrangement.
For another Spider-Man game in the wider catalogue, take a look at The Amazing Spider-Man. This Ultimate Edition stands as the more convenient Wii U bundle, not because it rewrites the formula, but because it avoids making you assemble the full experience piece by piece.
