NESd version 0.16.0

NESd v0.16.0, a NES emulator developed in Dart and Flutter, is now available for macOS, Windows, Android, and Linux (validated on Steam Deck). This version features cycle-accurate CPU, PPU, and APU emulation, customizable controls, save states, and gamepad support. New additions include APU visualization and enhanced audio channels for Japanese games using MMC5 and Namco 163 mappers. Notable fixes include issues with ROM thumbnails, game freezes, and audio glitches. The update addresses problems with loading NES 2.0 ROMs and improves overall performance. Download links are available for both x64 and Android versions.

Addressed an issue with the second pulse channel following the first one’s enable bit, causing it to either go silent or incorrectly play
Resolved an issue with ROM tiles often displaying a blank thumbnail after returning from gameplay
Fixed black screens or freezing in MMC5 games
Corrected MMC5 games with battery-backed save RAM that had no usable memory, which also led to saves not being written
Fixed crashes in MMC5 games using ExRAM attribute mode
Adjusted the first audio sample after a reset which was slightly too loud
Resolved glitches or freezes in Namco 163 games when writing to their sound hardware
Fixed unresponsive controls after opening a ROM from the file picker; required restarting the game to regain functionality
Fixed an issue with opening a ROM via the “File → Open…” menu while the game continued to run behind the main menu, causing controls to be unresponsive
Resolved instances of games briefly running in the background when they finished loading while another screen was open
Fixed the “Open ROM” file picker cancelling and resuming the game behind the in-game menu instead of pausing it
Corrected NES 2.0 ROMs with over 4 MiB of PRG ROM or 2 MiB of CHR ROM to load at the correct size, which previously resulted in blank or corrupted graphics
Resolved issues with NES 2.0 ROMs getting incorrect amounts of work RAM, save RAM, and CHR RAM, which could cause blank or garbled graphics and lost saves
