Nextendo v1.7.9, a fork of the Ryujinx Nintendo Switch emulator, introduces enhanced online capabilities with a built-in client for the Nextendo Network. This allows seamless online play for supported games like Mario Tennis Aces and ARMS without complex setup. Key updates include geo-routing for optimized server connections, Splatfest data integration for Splatoon 3, and fixes to prevent Splatoon 2 from deleting event data. Additionally, the emulator now syncs the console clock with the PC and has improved Discord integration for compatible titles. The release aims to enhance user experience while maintaining Ryujinxโs emulation accuracy.

Nextendo v1.7.9 has been launched. Nextendo is an offshoot of the open-source Ryujinx Nintendo Switch emulator. It enhances Ryujinx’s already impressive accuracy and performance by integrating a top-tier, built-in client for the Nextendo Network โ a community-driven alternative to the official online service โ allowing compatible games to be played online seamlessly, without requiring manual setup, custom hosts files, or SSL bypasses. The emulation core (CPU, GPU, audio, input, filesystem) remains consistent with upstream Ryujinx. Nextendo’s improvements are solely focused on the networking aspect and overall user experience.
Nextendo Changelog:
Mario Tennis Aces and ARMS are now part of the network
Both titles are fully recognized by Nextendo and can be accessed directly for online play.
Similar to other supported games, only one version is playable at a time โ ARMS
5.5.1 and Mario Tennis Aces 3.1.1, which are both the most recent versions. If your version is older, Nextendo will alert you before launch, preventing you from encountering a
connection error without any explanation.
Mario Tennis Aces selects the closest server for you
Unlike other titles, Tennis relies more on peer-to-peer connections, which posed issues for players worldwide. Now, the game resolves a real GeoDNS name instead of a
static address, directing you to the nearest active Tennis node โ one in Europe and one in North America. Other games remain unaffected.
This is just the initial phase: the two nodes currently operate independently, with cross-node play intended for future updates. If you prefer to use the European node, set
NEXTENDO_TENNIS_GEODNS=0 to revert to the previous functionality. For those running a private server, the redirect won’t impact your setup โ your server maintains Tennis as it does with all other titles.
Both features were contributed by @CollectingW, who also established and manages the second node.
Splatfest data is now included with the emulator
Splatoon 3 Splatfests require a data package that the console usually downloads. Previously, you had to manually add this package, but it’s now bundled in this build, located at portable/bcat-seed/, making a fresh install event-ready without additional configuration.
The package covers all regions for Splatfest โ Japan, the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific โ since the game requests the one corresponding to your selected region, which can only be changed monthly. Regardless of your choice, the data is included.
Two points to note: The in-app updater does not include it โ it intentionally leaves your portable folder untouched to avoid altering your saves, keys, or settings. If you update within the emulator, extract this archive over your installation to obtain the package. For macOS users, the build lacks a portable folder; please use the separate package asset provided with this release.
Splatoon 2 no longer erases Splatoon 3’s event data
Since both games share a folder for their downloaded data, Splatoon 2 would clear this when it saved its files. This meant anyone who installed the Splatoon 3 event package and then opened Splatoon 2 would lose it without warning โ and a fresh install would guarantee deletion on the first launch.
Now, Splatoon 2 only deletes its own folders. No action is needed on your part: existing installations will function correctly from the first launch after the update.
The console clock now synchronizes with your PC
Two settings are enabled by default in this release.
Matching system time keeps the emulated console’s clock aligned with your computer’s. Without this, the console clock may drift, leading to events changing at fixed times, putting you out of sync โ you might receive announcements while others are already in-game.
Ignoring missing services allows a game to continue running even if it requests something that the emulator doesnโt support, rather than stopping. Many of these are called during online play, and their absence doesnโt affect gameplay.
Both settings were previously discovered by online players.
Discord now shows the correct game
Titles compatible with Nextendo appear on Discord under Ryujinx | Nextendo instead of just Ryujinx. Previously, ARMS and Mario Tennis Aces were not listed correctly and would show as standard Ryujinx sessions. This issue is resolved, and Mario Tennis Aces now displays its actual cover art.
Splatoon 3: An event logo now appears on the title screen
During a Splatfest, the Splatoon 3 title screen can now showcase the eventโs logo instead of the default one. The server manages this โ no installation or toggling required, and once the event concludes, the title screen reverts to the usual display automatically.
It’s important to note: Splatoon 3 allows no mods at all; nothing is being added to your game. Nintendo included several logos within the title screen file; the emulator simply serves a different one in memory when the game loads. Your files remain unchanged, and no game data is distributed. If the server does not provide anything, or is unreachable, the title screen remains entirely intact.
