Square Enix censors Tifa’s cleavage in FFVII remake update patch. Expect even worse in rebirth.

Suare Enix Releases Controversial FFVII Remake Update

Square Enix recently deployed an update for Final Fantasy VII Remake on PC and PlayStation. While containing some minor bug fixes, this update also censors Tifa’s cleavage in a notable cutscene.

In the Nibelheim flashback sequence, Tifa’s outfit has been altered to cover her chest area with a black undershirt. Her original design showed more cleavage in this scene. Fans have debated whether this change constitutes censorship or just a design tweak for consistency.

However, the update has also broken the important FFVIIHook mod on PC. This unlocked the developer console and enabled commands to fix issues like stuttering. The mod is now non-functional after the update.

Overall, these changes have provoked mixed reactions from Final Fantasy fans. Some see the Tifa alteration as an unnecessary act of censorship. Others view it as a minor change to align her look across FFVII Remake and the upcoming FFVII Rebirth. But the mod breakage has caused technical headaches for PC players.

The update arrives just days before the launch of FFVII Rebirth on PlayStation 5. It remains to be seen whether Square Enix will address fan criticisms or stick to their design decisions. Still, the remake’s PC and PlayStation communities continue debating the merits of this new content update.

Square Enix has drawn flak in the past for censorship and progressive politics in their games. However, the intent behind this particular update remains ambiguous. We’ll need to wait and see whether the publisher comments on the reasoning behind the changes.

For now, Final Fantasy faithful remain divided on the alterations. And PC modders scramble to find workarounds for their disabled tools. Once again, a major FFVII remake update has kickstarted controversy within the iconic RPG’s passionate fanbase.
