In case you missed it: Sega CD action from Bari-Arm to Gotham chases
This batch of Sega CD action games jumps from morphing fighters and anime heroes to FMV experiments, licensed horror, and bruising one-on-one battles.
Android Assault: The Revenge of Bari-Arm
In Bari-Arm’s morphing shooter, the pilot can switch between a nimble fighter and the heavier Bari-Arm cyborg during side-scrolling stages. Thundercracker, Burning Wave, and Chase Cannon weapon choices sit alongside asteroid fields, underwater areas, and a final push into the Xias mothership.
Anett Futatabi
Anett’s sword-and-magic sequel brings Anett together with Earnest Evans against an ancient sect and its engineered monsters. Sword attacks feed into a replenishing magic meter, while caverns, temples, ruins, hazards, and anime-style interludes keep the route moving.
Batman Returns
Batman’s platform-and-driving mix retains the Genesis-style platform stages while adding Batmobile and Batskiboat runs viewed from behind the vehicle. Platform-only, racing-only, and combined modes each lead to their own ending, so it is worth comparing which side of the game holds up better under repeat play.
Blackhole Assault
C.A.M. robot duels frames its action as single-round, one-on-one fights between C.A.M. machines and alien warbots across solar-system arenas. Operation BHA, Exhibition, Tournament, and League modes give the robot bouts different structures, from a campaign push to direct match setup.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
Jonathan Harker’s Dracula hunt casts Jonathan Harker in a side-scrolling pursuit through locations associated with the 1992 film. Punches, high kicks, health pickups, invincibility drops, voice briefings, and FMV clips sit beside digitized backdrops and boss health meters.
Citizen X
Citizen X’s fifteen-minute bomb run puts an improvised agent on a fifteen-minute dash to locate and disarm a bomb. Sewer mutants, circus clowns, breakable walls, hidden ammunition, and FMV briefings make its short route a natural candidate for route-by-route comparison.
Cobra Command / Sol-Feace
the Cobra Command and Sol-Feace pairing pairs cockpit-view rail shooting in Cobra Command with the horizontal shooting of Sol-Feace. One asks players to fire while avoiding buildings on a fixed course, while the other sticks to the cleaner side-view rhythm of a traditional shooter.
Devastator
Ryo’s chain-sickle mech mission sends Ryo through platform-shooter stages and occasional horizontal shooting sequences after he is thrown into another dimension. Its chain sickle gives the mech close-range reach, but long-range pickups must be cycled by shooting the item and only one can be carried at once.
Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side
Eternal Champions’ expanded CD roster expands the Genesis fighter with thirteen immediately selectable warriors and twelve hidden combatants. New moves, local versus bouts, animated arenas, CGI sequences, and character-specific finishers give this one the most direct head-to-head challenge in the group.
Which Sega CD action experiment would you revisit first: Bari-Arm’s transformations, Batman’s vehicle stages, Citizen X’s timed route, or Cobra Command’s cockpit run?
“Yes,there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on.”
