Final Fantasy XIII-2: Opponent – Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is a focused Final Fantasy XIII-2 Coliseum add-on: one opponent, one hard-won crystal, and a worthwhile battle ally at the end. The fight has a pleasing escalation as he opens with firearms before trading them for blades, giving the encounter more personality than a simple repeatable bonus match.

It is a good pick if you want another Commando option and enjoy Final Fantasy’s long-running guest combatants. For another Coliseum challenge, the related Opponent – Nabaat add-on is a natural companion.

Gameplay

The first draw here is immediate: you enter the Coliseum to fight Gilgamesh, then beat him to earn the right to call him into your own battles. That is a clean, satisfying DLC loop, and it gives the encounter a purpose beyond simply adding another name to the roster.

Gilgamesh is a Commando, so this add-on will speak most directly to you if another offensive battle ally sounds useful. His combat arc also has some welcome character. He begins armed with an array of firearms and eventually switches to blades, making the fight feel like it is moving somewhere rather than remaining visually and tactically static.

The reward is Gilgamesh’s crystal, which lets you summon him as a battle ally, along with his Feral Link, Divider. This is a narrowly scoped purchase rather than a large new adventure, but it knows exactly what it is: a themed boss confrontation with a practical companion waiting on the other side.

Graphics

The Coliseum battle gets its visual hook from Gilgamesh’s changing loadout. Seeing him start with firearms before drawing a set of blades gives the opponent a stronger on-screen presence than a foe who carries the same weapon from start to finish.

Story

There is not much narrative weight to carry here. Gilgamesh arrives as an opponent in the Coliseum, and the central dramatic question is simply whether you can defeat him and claim his crystal.

That stripped-down setup works for an add-on built around a recognizable Final Fantasy face. His connection to Final Fantasy V gives the encounter a bit of series-history flavor without asking you to detour from XIII-2’s broader momentum.

If you buy DLC for scenes and story development, this is unlikely to be the one that changes your view of XIII-2. Its personality comes through the opponent himself: a famous combatant, a weapon change during the fight, and a prize that joins your side.

Overall Experience

Opponent – Gilgamesh is a compact, purposeful piece of Final Fantasy XIII-2 content. It offers a single opponent with a recognizable identity, then turns victory into an immediately usable reward. That is a much better payoff than a one-and-done exhibition battle.

The scope is also the limitation. You are paying for one Coliseum encounter and its recruitable result, so its value depends on how much you enjoy refining your lineup and collecting battle allies. If that part of XIII-2 already has you hooked, Gilgamesh feels like a fitting addition rather than filler.

Recommended for fans who want a Commando ally and appreciate Gilgamesh’s Final Fantasy V roots. Everyone else can safely treat it as optional, but the firearms-to-blades progression and Divider reward make it one of the more characterful ways to add a single combatant to the game.
