Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes – I Am the Boss

I Am the Boss gets straight to the point: it lets you take control of four bosses—Azexez, Azh-Rafir, Count Carlyle, and Ludmilla—in Quick Battle and multiplayer. If you already know the push-and-pull of Clash of Heroes, that is an immediately tempting hook rather than a warm-up.

This is a compact character pack, not a sweeping expansion, but its four exclusive spells give each new choice a little extra personality. It is an easy recommendation for regular versus players; campaign-focused fans will get far less out of it.

Gameplay

The fun starts with a simple fantasy: the intimidating bosses are finally on your side. Rather than asking you to learn a separate mode or grind through new content, I Am the Boss drops Azexez, Azh-Rafir, Count Carlyle, and Ludmilla into Quick Battle and multiplayer. That makes it a DLC pack built for players who already return to the game for individual matches.

Each character brings a dedicated spell—Demon Portal, Palm Blast!, Bile Blast, and Spider Swarm—which is important because it stops the additions from feeling like four cosmetic roster slots. The names alone suggest very different flavors, and the real value is having more matchup possibilities to explore with friends, locally or online. If you have reached the point where you know the existing cast well, these bosses give you a fresh reason to reconsider your usual choices.

The limitation is equally clear: this is a focused multiplayer and skirmish add-on. You need the original game, and its payoff depends on how often you play Quick Battle or compete against other people. Buy it because you want more combatants in rotation, not because you are expecting a large new adventure. For fans with a regular opponent, that narrow focus is a strength; the DLC gets you into another match fast.

Graphics

The familiar isometric battle view remains a good fit for the added bosses, keeping the focus on the board and the contest between opposing forces. The four new playable characters are the clearest visual draw here: the appeal is getting to put former boss figures on your own side of the battlefield.

Story

I Am the Boss does not build its case around a new tale. Its four additions are framed as playable boss characters, so the pleasure comes from changing who you command rather than following a new narrative thread.

That makes this an uncomplicated purchase decision. If the original game’s characters and fantasy world were what pulled you through its broader adventure, this pack gives you more ways to inhabit that world in battles, but it does not offer a new story-shaped destination.

There is still a small role-playing thrill in taking figures such as Azexez or Ludmilla out of the opponent’s seat and making them yours. Just do not confuse that change in perspective with narrative expansion: this is about replaying fights with a different cast, not extending the plot.

Overall Experience

For the right Clash of Heroes fan, this is clean, useful DLC. Four playable bosses and four corresponding spells are enough to make match selection more interesting without cluttering the game with a detour. The first few matches should answer the only question that matters: do these new personalities make you want to queue up another one?

It is easiest to recommend to competitive players and households that still play offline multiplayer. Windows and PlayStation 3 owners also have the Advanced Opponents update incorporated, adding these characters as opponents; Xbox 360 owners can obtain that update separately. That extra opposition helps the bosses feel more integrated even when no human rival is around.

If you want more of the wider fantasy-strategy lineage after exhausting these matchups, Might and Magic: Heroes V (Limited Edition) is a related stop. On its own terms, though, I Am the Boss is a modest but smart roster expansion: worthwhile when you love the base game’s battles, easy to skip when you were mainly there for the campaign.
