Activision, Inc.

Founded in October 1979 in Sunnyvale, California, Activision, Inc. was created by former Atari programmers David Crane, Alan Miller, Bob Whitehead and Larry Kaplan together with industry executive Jim Levy. Early as an independent third‑party developer and publisher for the Atari 2600, the company released influential cartridge hits such as Pitfall! (David Crane, 1982) and River Raid (Carol Shaw, 1982). The firm later underwent corporate restructuring and name changes during the 1980s as it expanded beyond cartridge games.
