DOSBox-X Version (June 11, 2026)

DOSBox-X Git (2026/06/11) is a DOSBox branch that emulates an Intel x86 PC, supporting old MS-DOS games on modern systems like Windows XP, Vista, and Linux. Recent updates in the changelog mention issues with vertical breaks in Windows 11 menus, attempts to improve Mac OS menu alignment, and additional methods for hiding menu items on Mac OS 10.5+. There are also enhancements to Windows menu handling, including the use of GetMenuItemInfo for better item management. Overall, the update focuses on refining menu functionality and fixing build errors related to menu changes.

Updated DOSBox-X Git (2026/06/11) has been released. DOSBox-x branches off from DOSBox. The DOSBox emulator mimics an Intel x86 PC, providing sound, graphics, mouse, joystick, and modem support—all essential for running many classic MS-DOS games which cannot operate on contemporary PCs and operating systems, including Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, and FreeBSD.

Changelog for DOSBox-X:
* Attempted to restore vertical breaks in Windows, but peculiar bugs in Windows 11 arise when InsertItem() is invoked for them (MF_MENUBREAK or MF_MENUBARBREAK), resulting in a poor appearance.
* Mac OS menus: Still working on aligning text to the left and shortcuts to the right; for now, the shortcut color is changed as a temporary measure.
* Unlike Windows, Mac OS 10.5+ has NSMenuItem methods to explicitly hide menu items.
* Completing revisions on Windows menus to allow the hide status to function correctly.
* Simplified winAppendMenu to reduce redundant code and ensure cleaner execution.
* Enhanced Windows menu processing: Shifted to using GetMenuItemInfo/SetMenuItemInfo instead of ModifyMenu. Temporarily mapped the hidden status to an !enabled status so that hidden items are marked as disabled. Updated menu refresh_item() to modify both submenus and items, despite the Windows API’s limitations on resource IDs for submenus. Corrected several calls to hidden() to now invoke refresh_item().
* Adjustments made to hide() and refresh_item().
* Merged pull request #6346 from maron2000/vs_buildfix.
* Incorporated the windows-2022 image for ARM64 builds.
* Merged pull request #6345 from maron2000/direct3d11_test.
* Resolved VideoTTFMenu functionality to activate solely when TTF output is enabled.
* Corrected a build error related to menu changes.
