NgpCraft Emulator v2.9.3 has been launched. This emulator for the Neo Geo Pocket / Neo Geo Pocket Color features a speedy native C++ core (TLCS-900H + Z80 + K2GE video) operated by a PyQt6 desktop interface. Its timing is adjusted to match actual hardware — including instruction-fetch wait-states on cartridge flash and silicon-measured MUL/DIV and LDIR timings — ensuring that self-timed games (like Cool Boarders Pocket, Densha de Go) run smoothly at their authentic 30 fps, rather than the approximated 2× speed that many other emulators present.
Features:
A library with cover thumbnails available in grid, list, or compact format, which dynamically adjusts — plus options for search and sort (by name, last played, most played, playtime, recently added, and size, with toggle options), favorites ★, and a filter for never-played titles. Game statistics such as play count, playtime, and last-played are recorded per title.
Console boot functionality — using a genuine BIOS; Boot BIOS powers the console on in a real manner: the Neo Geo Pocket intro plays, and the game subsequently loads just like on actual hardware.
Video options include integer, fit, and stretch scaling, along with scanline, LCD-grid, and CRT filters, customizable color profiles, and true fullscreen mode. The canvas adjusts to the window size; there are preset size options (Ctrl+1…5).
Black-and-white cartridges displayed in color — NGP games run on NGPC are colorized, similar to how Game Boy games appear on Game Boy Color. Both systems can be selected — refer to Monochrome cartridges.
Save states feature — 8 slots available per game (accessible via the toolbar or using F2 to save / F4 to load / F3 for slot selection).
In-game saves are preserved — the game’s flash save can be stored in the ROM, as a separate file, or both.
The console retains settings — a coin cell battery preserves BIOS settings and maintains the clock, ensuring the date remains accurate for the next session. The RTC alarm functions properly, activating on schedule.
Speed controls — fast-forward option (hold Tab) and adjustable speed from 0.25× to 4× ([ / ] or the toolbar).
Rewind functionality — hold the , (or the ⏪ toolbar button) to rewind the game; releasing it resumes play. The feature steps forward one frame; buffer length is adjustable (Off / 10 / 20 / 30 seconds).
Screenshots can be taken (F12; folder customizable), including an FPS overlay and a toggleable player toolbar.
Controller compatibility — supports an Xbox-style (XInput) controller alongside keyboard functionality, complete with turbo/autofire on the A and B buttons at rates of 5-20 presses per second.
Completely remappable — every console button and in-game hotkey can be customized, with alerts provided for potential conflicts. Console button mappings are arranged visually next to a picture of the console, making it easy to select the D-pad’s left button instead of navigating a generic “Left” label.
Theme options — the emulator follows your desktop’s light/dark mode by default, or you can explicitly choose Light or Dark. Changes are applied in real-time without restarting.
Debug tools (F1) — a comprehensive debugger: includes symbols, instruction stepping, call stack analysis, raster event timeline, read/write watchpoints, an editable hex view with highlighting for access, RAM searching, and audio analysis with VGM export capabilities. Check Debugging for more.
ROM analysis — right-click on a game to boot, drive, and report any issues identified. Refer to ROM analysis for details.
Crash reporting — a ROM fault generates a detailed crash report in crashes/*.txt (including reason, PC, opcode, registers, and memory & stack dumps).
Multilingual interface — available in English and French, with live switching capabilities, no restart required. Each language corresponds to a separate JSON file in lang/, making it easy to add new languages by simply including a file; see TRANSLATING.md for more. Contributions are encouraged.
