The Week in Emulation: October 5–12, 2026

October 5–12, 2026. The week’s clearest emulator releases were a Dolphin hotfix, a substantial SameBoy update, and a new FCEUX version. Igir also expanded the way collections can be named and sorted. Across the four monitored categories, we found 166 notices; most of the console entries were successive development snapshots. The full dated log groups them below.

Console and handheld releases

Dolphin 2609a fixes the first 2609 release

Dolphin labels 2609a a hotfix for its September release. The official tag comparison shows fixes for an Android settings crash on older API levels, oversized NetPlay messages, and several lower-level stability problems. It is the numbered 2609a release; the later 2609-77 and 2609-79 notices in the log are development builds. Readers using GameCube or Wii software can check the Dolphin profile before changing versions.

SameBoy 1.0.4 balances accuracy and everyday use

The official SameBoy 1.0.4 notes add libretro virtual-file-system support, portable battery-save metadata, VGM audio logging, and improved iOS support. On the emulation side, the release corrects Super Game Boy command handling, Workboy weekday reporting, and a cartridge-detection error affecting some small ROMs. Its new scaling filter becomes the default in the Cocoa and SDL frontends. The SameBoy profile covers the emulator and its supported systems.

FCEUX 2.7.0 refreshes developer tools

FCEUX 2.7.0 is an official release, not one of the daily Git builds. The project describes stronger profiling and debugging support, FFmpeg 9 compatibility, and build-system improvements. Those changes are especially useful to people inspecting NES behavior or recording emulator output; the release notes do not claim a broad compatibility breakthrough. See the FCEUX profile for the project overview.

Arcade, PC, and collection tools

Igir 5.7.2 adds output-name tokens for DAT file names, versions, dates, and RetroNAS, and extends console tokens to MAME and FinalBurn families. These are collection-management changes, not an emulator core release. Igir has no individual emulator profile, so the official homepage and source repository are the useful destinations.

Supermodel published an automated October 9 build whose listed change updates Games.xml. It is a small arcade database change rather than a new major Model 3 milestone; the Supermodel profile remains the starting point for the emulator. FinalBurn Neo, DOSBox-X, and DOSBox Staging each had development notices this week, but the feed titles alone do not establish new stable releases.

Complete grouped dated log

These are the notices published between Monday mornings in Eastern time. Dates are notice dates; repeated daily builds are grouped under one project. A version-looking notice is not confirmation of a stable release. Project headings link to Retro Replay profiles where one exists, and verified project destinations appear alongside them. This log is a record of notices, not a recommendation to install every build.
