Snes9xrd Version 0.4

Snes9xrd v0.4 is released, a personal fork of Snes9x 1.63 by DeAtSoUl56 that incorporates upstream changes while rebuilding the Qt front-end and fixing bugs. Changes include a revamped Qt interface aligning settings with legacy win32 dialogs, improved controller bindings with accurate highlights, and a simplified main window. Key updates also feature enhanced error messaging for save/load failures, audio initialization issues, and shader preset loads. The software now defaults to a 10MB rewind buffer and introduces a new playback rate list. It also includes GUI enhancements and fixed compilation issues for Windows. Snes9xrd v0.4 has been released. This is snes9xrd, a customized version of Snes9x 1.63, managed by DeAtSoUl56. It closely follows the upstream master without a separate feature branch, but it rebuilds the Qt front-end and addresses bugs encountered during development. The rest (emulation core and GTK/win32/macOS/libretro front-ends) remains the original Snes9x.

Changes from upstream:
Overhauled Qt front-end: Display, Sound, Emulation, and Controllers settings now match the legacy win32 dialogs (including stretch/transparency/shader parameters, frame skipping, software filters, per-channel volume/mute, etc.).
Controller binding widget: the on-screen SNES controller image now accurately highlights the bound and pressed button—eliminating pre-lit buttons or mismatched highlights—with a background that aligns with the settings theme.
Binding corrections: axis/hat bindings are now clearly distinguished and successfully retain their settings after save/load; joystick button highlighting corresponds to the raw button index from which the bindings are captured.
Streamlined main window: the sidebar that was introduced earlier in the fork’s development has been removed in favor of a top menu bar; the Help → About dialog has been restored with the fork’s unique credits.

Snes9xrd Changelog:
Save State / Load State errors are now displayed via on-screen message overlay instead of failing without notice.
Audio driver initialization failures now produce an error message instead of failing silently.
Fixed the OpenGL renderer not reverting to the Qt renderer during context creation failure (it now acts like the Vulkan renderer).
Shader preset load failures (OpenGL and Vulkan) are now communicated through the on-screen message overlay rather than only appearing in the console.
Addressed a settings-window dangling pointer/lifetime issue.
Corrected the Shader Parameters dialog that was taking focus from the Emulation Settings dialog.
In Sound Settings: expanded the playback rate list and buffer size step, and included a Frame Advance mute option.
Introduced the sharp-bilinear-flexible software filter.
Enhanced global spinbox style.
The default rewind buffer size is now set to 10MB on a clean configuration, instead of being disabled (0).
Freeze-file-not-found and successful-screenshot notifications now utilize the on-screen message overlay instead of modal dialogs.
Resolved issues with screenshot saving being blocked by the newer libpng bit-depth/color-type validation.
Fixed the Windows build not compiling with the app icon/manifest/version resource.
In the About dialog: added a link to the snes9xrd GitHub repository.
