Ares, a multi-system emulator released on August 26, 2026, was developed starting October 14, 2004. Descending from higan and bsnes, it emphasizes accuracy and preservation. Ares currently emulates 27 hardware devices, including Famicom, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64 (in development), Game Boy, Master System, Mega Drive, PC Engine, MSX, ColecoVision, and others. Recent updates include enhancements for Nintendo 64, such as reporting the cycle counter and fixing timer interrupts. The emulator can be downloaded in x64 format, and source code is available.
