The first jungle drop sets the pace in Contra on NES: run right, jump the gaps, and keep firing before the next soldier reaches you. Bill and Lance take on Red Falcon across eight stages, with simultaneous two-player action and a Spread Gun that can clear much of the screen.

The 1988 US NES version moves between side-scrolling stages and rear-view base corridors, then pushes through the snowfield, energy zone, hangar, and alien lair. A hit costs a life and your current weapon, so grabbing a new power-up can change the next stretch of the run.
This is the NES release of Contra, with its own stage layouts and presentation. The NES Gamebase gallery shows the unmodified US NES game.
