Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Explosive Mission Pack

Explosive Mission Pack is a compact Deus Ex: Human Revolution detour built around a straightforward favor for Tracer Tong. During Jensen’s second trip to Hengsha, you meet Tong’s thugs, break into a noodle factory, pull Tong out of trouble, and earn the Linebacker G-87 MSGL grenade launcher for your effort.

It is a worthwhile extra only if you already want another small slice of Human Revolution’s infiltration-and-rescue rhythm. The Remote Explosive, Automatic Unlocking Device, and grenade launcher add immediate utility, but this feels like a focused bonus mission rather than essential material. Fans should also take a look at the related Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Augmented Edition).

Gameplay

The first pull here is simple: Tracer Tong needs help, and the pack gets you moving toward a rescue instead of spending time on a long setup. “You Scratch My Back, I’ll Scratch Yours” slots into Jensen’s second Hengsha visit, so it works best when you are already in the flow of Human Revolution and want one more job before leaving the city behind.

The mission’s shape is direct: meet Tong’s thugs, infiltrate the noodle factory, and rescue Tong. That makes it a brisk side excursion rather than a sprawling new chapter, but the familiar Deus Ex structure gives the objective enough weight. If you enjoy entering a hostile location with a clear target and figuring out how to reach it, this is an easy detour to justify.

The three included items are practical sweeteners. The M-28 Remote Explosive and Automatic Unlocking Device broaden your options immediately, while the Linebacker G-87 MSGL grenade launcher is the explicit reward for seeing the rescue through. The launcher is a satisfying payoff if you favor force, though the pack does not need to be a major equipment upgrade to earn its place; the mission itself is the main reason to play.

Graphics

The mission returns you to Hengsha and puts its central infiltration inside a noodle factory. That setting gives this bonus its own concrete destination within a city you already know, rather than sending Jensen to an unrelated location.

Story

This is a small, personal favor rather than a major rewrite of Human Revolution’s story. Tong is in trouble, Jensen is asked to intervene, and the plot moves with the efficient logic of a contact calling in a debt. It is enough motivation for a compact mission, even if you should not expect a sweeping narrative detour.

Using Tong helps the pack feel connected to Hengsha instead of bolted on from the outside. You are not chasing a generic reward marker; you are responding to someone with an existing place in Jensen’s orbit. That continuity is the strongest story contribution the DLC makes.

The rescue premise also gives the final reward a natural place in the mission. You save Tong, then receive the Linebacker G-87 MSGL grenade launcher. It is a clean transaction, appropriately titled, and its modesty suits a bonus that knows it is only stopping by.

Overall Experience

Explosive Mission Pack is a good extra hour-or-so style of proposition in spirit: a contained Hengsha errand, a rescue target, and a handful of useful tools. Its value comes from extending a part of Human Revolution you already enjoy, not from transforming the larger game.

Frustration can set in if you expect a substantial story expansion. The objective chain is plainly defined and the reward structure is equally straightforward, so there is little sense that this is a must-play branch of Jensen’s journey. It feels closer to a polished bonus assignment than a missing chapter.

Still, if Human Revolution left you wanting another infiltration with Tong at the center, this is worth your time. The factory rescue has a clear purpose, the new gear has tangible use, and the grenade launcher gives the mission a proper closing present. Everyone else can treat it as optional, but fans of the base game will find a welcome, if slight, return to Hengsha.
