Gameplay

This pack gets straight to its point: you receive a Mini Cooper S customized for Gymkhana. There is no broader hook to decipher or new direction to learn; the attraction is simply taking a different car into the Gymkhana-focused side of DiRT 3.

That narrowness can be a virtue. If Gymkhana is where you already spend your time, a purpose-built Mini is a welcome excuse to revisit those events and see how the car suits your own driving habits. It is the kind of add-on that earns its place through repetition rather than surprise.

On the other hand, it will not convert you if Gymkhana never clicked for you in the first place. One vehicle is a modest reward, and the pack has little room to justify itself beyond your interest in that discipline. Buy it for a specific appetite, not because you expect a major extension of DiRT 3.

Graphics

The customized Mini Cooper S is the pack’s sole visual centerpiece. A compact Mini standing apart from the rest of a rally-game garage has an immediate bit of character, especially when the car is framed around Gymkhana use rather than conventional racing.

Story

This is a vehicle add-on, not a narrative chapter. Its “story” is effectively the car’s purpose: a Mini Cooper S prepared specifically for Gymkhana events.

That makes the pack easy to place within DiRT 3. You are not returning for new characters or plot developments; you are returning for another way to inhabit an existing competitive activity.

The lack of any narrative detour suits the small scale. The pack does not distract from the main game’s direction, but it also offers no dramatic reason to revisit DiRT 3 beyond the pleasure of driving this particular Mini.

Overall Experience

The Mini Gymkhana Special Pack is honest, compact DLC. It adds exactly one specialized car and puts all of its value in how much you enjoy Gymkhana.

For a dedicated DiRT 3 Gymkhana fan, that focus is enough. The Mini is a clean, thematic addition, and it is hard to object to a car that has been tailored to the mode you already like playing.

For everyone else, this is optional rather than essential. It was later included in DiRT 3: Complete Edition, which further underlines its role as a nice extra rather than a defining part of the game. Give it a chance if the Mini and Gymkhana combination sounds immediately appealing; otherwise, DiRT 3 itself is the bigger draw.
