DOSBox-X v2026.08.02 has been released. DOSBox-x is a variant of DOSBox. DOSBox simulates an Intel x86 PC, including sound, graphics, mouse, joystick, modem, and more, essential for playing numerous classic MS-DOS games that are incompatible with modern PCs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, and FreeBSD.
DOSBox-X Changelog:
– Debugger: normalized 16-bit segmented offsets for address display/lookup and
avoided false “[illegal]” memory operand indications in AnalyzeInstruction() (cimarronm)
– Fixed character rendering and mouse cursor display in DOS/V Japanese mode. (nanshiki)
– Resolved build error in OSFREE release builds (maron2000)
– Introduced floppy BPB sanity check and reorganized existing floppy BPB check code (maron2000)
– Corrected window resizing issues (OpenGL, SDL2) (misty7666)
– Updated Nuked-OPL3-fast to version 1.8-fast.3 (tgies)
– Implemented support for nested subdirectories in Z drive (maron2000)
– Added experimental “ethnet” command and protocol for NE2000 emulation. Instead
of utilizing pcap promiscious mode, which is ineffective over Wi-Fi, a client
server configuration can be set up to simulate a private LAN between DOSBox-X instances on localhost or within the local area network. The ethnet command
is intentionally structured to mirror the command layout of the “ipx” command used for configuring an IPX network in DOSBox and DOSBox-X. (joncampbell123)
– Enhanced FAT driver performance, particularly for directory enumeration,
file creation, reading, and writing (joncampbell123).
– Added PC3270 and Olivetti machine types (firevaran).
– Corrected fatDrive error paths so truncated boot-sector reads no longer appear
as successful mounts, and ensured early returns now close diskfile handles
to avoid leaks. (cimarronm)
– INT 33h: In PC-98 mode, removed display count for hide/show to align
with real mouse driver behavior (nanshiki)
