NESd v0.18.0 is a cross-platform NES emulator developed in Dart and Flutter, compatible with macOS, Windows, Linux, and Android. Key features include cycle-accurate CPU emulation, customizable controls, SRAM saves, and debugging tools. The update seeks two more Android testers for Google Play publication. New enhancements include browser play capability, GPU rendering, turbo options, configurable fast-forward speeds, and advanced audio settings. It also improves user interface elements like ROM loading and video filters. Several bugs were fixed, such as audio inconsistencies and controller focus issues. NESd v0.18.0 has been launched. This NES Emulator is developed using Dart and Flutter, and is compatible with macOS, Windows, Android, and Linux (tested on Steam Deck).

GPU rendering has been implemented on Linux and Windows
Turbo mode has been added for the A and B buttons on both controllers, with adjustable speed
Configurable fast-forward speeds: 2x (default), 3x, 4x, and maximum (without audio)
Fast-forward playback now includes audio
Gamepad now allows letter skipping in the file picker: Previous/Next Tab actions navigate to the last/next starting letter
An option to toggle Swap Duty Cycles has been added to the Audio settings
A Low Pass Filter toggle is now available in the Audio settings
Customizable overscan settings, adjustable per side, defaulting to 8px top and bottom
Multiple video filters can now be applied concurrently
The debug overlay now features a frame time graph, detailing emulation work and pacing sleep per frame
An Audio settings tool has been introduced
Emulator tools are now accessible via gamepad navigation
Tools can be focused using the “Focus Tools” action
The log viewer now color-codes log levels and channels and includes text search functionality
Nightly and branch builds now display a build ID in the About dialog and startup log
Modifications
Video filters (CRT, smooth) can now operate over the GPU renderer without reverting to the CPU renderer
Default settings for new users have been updated: Auto load is on and scaling is set to “smooth”
Main menu buttons are now organized in a single row beneath the recent ROM list, allowing more rows in the ROM grid on wider screens like the Steam Deck
Recent ROM thumbnails now gradually appear and display a loading progress indicator
Holding a gamepad button in menus now speeds up the repeat rate progressively
The Cancel option on a gamepad (Escape on keyboard) now navigates back one directory in the file picker
Log viewer opens at the Info level, tagging telemetry lines as Debug
The About button has been relocated from the main menu to the General settings tab
The “Quit NESd” button is no longer visible on Android
Flatpak nightly builds are now published to the main jpj.dev Flatpak repository. Existing nightly installations will display a message about the new repository
Bug Fixes
Resolved issues with the Zapper registering hits incorrectly
Fixed the CRT filter’s scanlines rendering as a single continuous line
Eliminated audio crackling on certain Android devices
Addressed audio stutters caused by irregular timers
Resolved the “Save states” option in the recent ROM context menu not functioning when no game is active
Fixed controller focus getting stuck in the file picker’s search box
Corrected Escape quitting to the main menu instead of opening the in-game menu after resuming the game with Enter
Android status and navigation bars will now be hidden by default
Unbound keys no longer trigger UI shortcuts during gameplay
Fixed late appearance of the main menu logo
Resolved ROMs being loaded before the ROM database is ready
Fixed emulator tools blocking input and Escape quitting to the main menu instead of opening the in-game menu
Addressed publishing issues for various architectures in the Flatpak repository
Fixed ROM paths passed via command line not starting automatically
