In case you missed it: 3DS experiments, Saturn timing, and vintage PC rigs
This first archive batch wanders from bare-metal boards to deeply configurable home computers, with two very different NES projects in the mix.
3Beans
In the 3Beans profile, the young 3DS project boots the Home Menu and some games through low-level system emulation. It offers software and hardware GPU rendering on Windows, macOS, and Linux, while CPU execution remains interpreted.
5thPlanet
the 5thPlanet profile follows a Rust-based Saturn emulator whose published Linux x86_64 packages include the jupiter executable. Its roadmap and compatibility notes track playable titles, while the in-window OSD and jupiter.toml handle configuration.
6502Emulator
the 6502Emulator profile centers on a readable NES implementation with its own 6502 CPU, PPU, APU, and mappers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 66. Save states, palette switching, pause and stepping sit alongside headless trace, frame, and audio checks.
86Box
With the 86Box profile, a DOS or Windows machine can be assembled from period motherboard, CPU, expansion-card, and peripheral choices. The configuration can stretch from early PC-era hardware through many Pentium-era boards, with virtual disks, floppies, and CD media attached inside the machine manager.
AdvanceOS
the AdvanceOS profile takes an unusual route: it runs GBA binaries in a GBA-like bare-metal environment on Raspberry Pi hardware. Its documented peripherals include backgrounds, sprites without rotation or scaling, keypad polling, timers, DMA, and IRQ handling.
Aldo
the Aldo profile is a C23 MOS 6502 project working toward a usable NES emulator, with CLI and in-progress GUI paths. Unit tests, BCD checks, and nestest verification give it a distinctly workshop-bench character; compare its route to NES support with 6502Emulator’s broader current subsystem list.
All Emulators
the archive listing shows 375 emulator profiles across 16 pages, beginning with these entries before moving into Atari, Amiga, Apple II, and multi-system territory. The opening run puts 3Beans, 5thPlanet, 6502Emulator, 86Box, AdvanceOS, and Aldo side by side; which ordering would you choose for a first-page tour?
Altirra
In the Altirra profile, Avery Lee’s Windows-native Atari 8-bit emulator covers the 400/800 line, XL and XE machines, XEGS, and a 5200-compatible mode. Disk, cartridge, tape, debugger, tracing, and cycle-level timing tools make for a formidable control panel.
amiberry
the Amiberry profile tracks the UAE-derived Amiga emulator from its ARM-focused Raspberry Pi roots to Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, and Flatpak builds. A500, A1200, and CD32 configurations sit alongside RP9 packages, WHDLoad support, RTG options, and JIT settings.
Anemoia-ESP32
the Anemoia-ESP32 profile puts a NES emulator directly on dual-core ESP32 hardware, with SPI TFT or composite video output, audio, MicroSD storage, and save states. It implements mappers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 69, making its hardware build choices as interesting as its game compatibility.
Which setup would you rather spend a weekend with: tuning a specific 86Box DOS machine, wiring an Anemoia-ESP32 handheld, or tracing an Atari program in Altirra?
