Retro Replay Review
Gameplay
This is the sort of DLC you notice most once you have already spent time in Revelations’ multiplayer. Rather than asking you to learn a new mode or chase a new set of objectives, it drops four additional character options into the existing competitive loop: the Corsair, Brigand, Privateer, and Gladiator. The first hour is about trying on those personalities, hearing the tailored taunts, and seeing which set of weapons and assassination techniques feels right for you.
That makes the pack easy to recommend to someone still actively playing multiplayer. A new character can be enough to freshen familiar matches, especially in a mode where being one more face in the crowd is part of the fun. The personalized touches matter more than a bullet-point description suggests: they give each pick a little attitude instead of making the additions feel like anonymous skins.
Still, do not expect a dramatic reinvention. The pack adds four characters and four Achievements/Trophies, not a new foundation for multiplayer. Frustration sets in if you buy it hoping for a big expansion, because its rewards are tightly tied to how much you already enjoy the base game’s online play. If Revelations multiplayer has lost you completely, these four options will not pull you back in; if you are still playing, they are a worthwhile dose of variety.
Graphics
The new characters are the visual focus here: the Corsair, Brigand, Privateer, and Gladiator give multiplayer matches a few more distinct human figures to encounter. Their individual taunts, weapons, and assassination techniques also help each one feel less interchangeable when you are choosing a character.
Story
There is no campaign chapter or new narrative thread attached to The Ancestors Character Pack. Its “ancestors” are multiplayer character additions, so buying it for more Assassin’s Creed lore would be a mismatch from the start.
That narrowness is refreshingly honest. The Corsair, Brigand, Privateer, and Gladiator are here to add flavor to competitive matches through their personalized actions, not to deepen Revelations’ main story.
If story is what you want from this corner of the series, this is the wrong purchase. The related Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – The Lost Archive is the more appropriate follow-up for that mood.
Overall Experience
The Ancestors Character Pack knows exactly how much it is: a compact multiplayer character pack with four themed additions and four associated Achievements/Trophies. It does not waste your time pretending to be a full expansion, and that restraint works in its favor.
The payoff depends entirely on your relationship with Revelations multiplayer. Regulars get new personalities, weapons, taunts, and assassination techniques to cycle through; everyone else gets a reason to pass. It is a pleasant extra rather than essential Assassin’s Creed content.
Buy it if you still have friends, rivals, or unfinished multiplayer goals in Revelations and want a little more character variety. Skip it without regret if your interest lies in the single-player story or if you need an add-on that changes the game in a larger way.
