Key updates include displaying individual SID chip addresses in the TuneInfo window and defaulting the “Multi-SID tunes Virtual stereo” option to disabled to avoid clipping issues. Improvements in playback duration drift were made, but further work is needed. Additionally, super-short tunes now play fully, and the “Use NTSC for MUS” option has been fixed. sidplaywx v0.19.3 has been released. The sidplaywx serves as a GUI player for Commodore 64 SID chip tunes, aiming to deliver a contemporary and enjoyable playback experience on the PC.
sidplaywx Changelog:
[NEW] The individual addresses of the SID chips are now displayed in the TuneInfo window.
[IMPROVED] The default setting for “Multi-SID tunes Virtual stereo” is now disabled.
Disabling Virtual stereo for 2SID & 3SID (and possibly MUS+STR) tunes helps avoid rare edge-case clipping. Furthermore, newer multi-SID tunes generally feature a more intentional stereo image created by the artists, differing from older tracks that were often hard-panned, which justifies the default disabled setting.
If you’ve previously adjusted this setting, it will retain your chosen value.
[IMPROVED] Playback drifting beyond the duration has been slightly enhanced. This remains a complex issue that requires more attention.
If you utilize the “Songlengths trim offset” option, you might need to adjust it now.
[IMPROVED] The About box will now also display the version of libresidfp.
[FIXED] Very short (sub)tunes, such as game sound effects, will now fully play through.
[FIXED] The “Use NTSC for MUS” Preferences option was sometimes ineffective or affecting nearby PSID tunes.
