In the emulation story

Roel van Mastbergen discussed Intrepid Izzy’s Dreamcast development in a 2019 interview. He described testing the originally PC-focused game on the older console and finding it worked surprisingly well. His account connects the early scene’s tools with later independent game development. Project record.

From an old favorite to a new game

In a 2013 interview, van Mastbergen traced Senile Team to three brothers wanting another Streets of Rage sequel. Beats of Rage grew from that enthusiasm; Neill Corlett later brought it to Dreamcast and PlayStation 2. The account puts the homebrew work inside a longer interest in making games.

Intrepid Izzy needed much more than a promising first test. The team’s 2020 diary describes animation and level changes made to fit the Dreamcast’s memory. The official credits name van Mastbergen for design and programming and date the Dreamcast release to August 20, 2021.
